Because of you
Like my two other pieces for Georgia Tech, "Aceso" and "Iaso," this sculpture was based on the white blood cell, the macrophage. The screw and hex nut construction also refers to the antigen-antibody complex. The biomedical research at the EBB aims to cure diseases by either modifying or engineering specific cells that can protect us.
The title, "Because of you," inspires a more romantic view of our biology. My hope is that because of this research, this cell structure will be "engineered " to be strong, proud, and defiant in the face of catastrophic threats.
